Reclaiming Narratives - Black History Month 2024

The FCSA is committed to the inclusion and representation of all our members. This year, our liberation groups will focus on raising awareness and promoting the inclusion of EVERYONE so we can collectively break down barriers and build a better society.

Black History Month runs throughout October in the UK, and it is a time to recognise history, heritage, and culture. People from African and Caribbean backgrounds have been part of British and global culture for generations, and their contribution is essential to our society. However, people of colour have faced racism and discrimination across the globe. Black History Month was created to challenge racism and, promote Black Stories Black History and break down negative stereotypes.

‘This year’s Black History Month theme, “Reclaiming Narratives,” marks a significant shift towards recognising and correcting the narratives of Black history and culture. By emphasising this theme, we shine a brighter light on stories, allegories, and histories that underscore our commitment to correcting historical inaccuracies and showcasing the untold success stories and the full complexity of Black heritage.’ – Black History Month.

The graphic below highlights a handful of incredible people throughout history, some of whom you may know, others you may not, however they each highlight some incredible achievements that you should know about.
